The Pikes Peak "Hill Climb" race is oldest race in the USA after the Indy 500. In 1969 the pace cars were supplied by AMC and were their excellent "Muscle" car the AMX. This comparatively small car was only a 2 seater but with a very lively and large 390 cubic inch motor. Of the twelve cars supplied by AMC as pace cars it appears that only one survives.
