On events like the Alpine Trial where the earlier side-valve SS1s had sometimes failed embarassingly the new 2.5Lt overhead valve 100 model excelled thanks to extra power from its Westlake modified engine and upgraded suspension and brakes evolved by Chief Engineer William Heynes.
