Jaguar completely dominated the 1957 event finishing 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 6th. The victorious long nose 'D' type (XKD606) was entered by Ecurie Ecosse (literally 'Team Scotland') its wide-angle dry sump 3.8 litre engine developing over 270bhp; preparation remained in the hands of the factory however. The following year a 3 litre engine capacity limit was imposed ending the 'D' type's great Le Mans record of 3 straight wins.
