MBC 9 Fiat "Mephistopheles" 1925

MBC 9 Fiat "Mephistopheles" 1925

21 714 cc Track and Record Car Mephistopheles began its long and famous career in 1908. The car was built for Sir George Abercromby who frequently raced the 58HP Fiat at  Brooklands. The car in this form had virtually no body and an engine of 18,155 c.c. After the first war the car was purchased by J. Duff who fitted a stream line body of the times again racing at Brooklands. The famous driver E.D.A. Eldridge then purchased the car for £25 and replaced the worn out engine with a Fiat A-12 Bis Aero engine. In this guise with a lengthened chassis the car provided many exciting races at Brooklands. In 1924 the land speed record was taken by Mephistopheles  just outside Paris, this was the last time the record was achieved on a public road. The speed reached being 143.01 mph. The car survives today in the Fiat museum in Italy but is now in its last livery of bright red.
